Healing and Therapy

Mariko has embarked on an exciting new journey in recent years and has expanded her practice as a Yoga and healing therapist to assist people experiencing chronic health disorders as well as those recovering from medical problems and diseases. Her unique approach to helping patients heal combines practices she knows to be effective in working with particular individuals exhibiting specific symptoms.

Our healing and therapy methods can be utilized to enhance the immune system, balance the hormones, improve endocrine function, or increase energy and stamina. With our methods, we can teach how to strengthen core muscles in the pelvic area and examine the body alignment, providing relief for a wide range of conditions and discomforts.  Not only can these therapies based on ancient wisdom aid in recovery form an illness or injury, but they can be used to maintain mobility and health.

As she is treating a client, Mariko becomes very involved and has helped people with back and neck aches, asthma, multiple sclerosis, cancer or its treatment, hypertension, insomnia, Rheumatoid Arthritis, fibromyalgia, Lupus, Scoliosis and other spinal disease, osteoporosis, diabetes, autoimmune disease, thyroid issues, scoliosis, heart disease, obesity, and stroke complications. Clients have reported that her caring heart and gentle touch are as much a factor in healing as the therapies she carefully selects to release energy blockages, develop flexibility, body alignment and strength, enable relaxation and increase brain function. She incorporates Yoga poses, energy movement methods such as those of Qi-gong, breathing techniques, Pilates, guided meditations, Reiki, Shiatsu, movement therapy, Chakra and Meridian life force energy systems, Ayurvedic principals and Thai massage among other practices that patients may engage in along with traditional medical treatments.   She blends traditional, natural practices with the latest scientific research on the function of the body, especially the brain and neuromuscular system.

Because these modalities focus on the mind/body connection, they can be highly effective in recovery from emotional health issues including insomnia, anxiety and depression.

Mariko's passion is to create and guide students into their own safe space, and to teach and treat the students with warmth and courage, so they can trust and open themselves to learn the systems of natural body recovery and balance.

Private and Semi-Private Sessions

Therapeutic and healing arts sessions are generally private or semi-private and by appointment only.  These session can more readily focus on your specific needs allowing you to get extra treatment and instruction from the expert teacher.

At the beginning of your program, the teacher will interview you and evaluate your situation.  We request that all clients who opt for private of semi-private sessions commit to at least one session per  week for at least 3 months, as natural healing may take some time to occur.  Depending upon the student's situation they may combine private sessions and group sessions.

Recovery Yoga Class or Chair Yoga

Recovery yoga is beneficial for  the students who cannot maintain a position like kneeling or head down for a  long time.  After recovery from surgery or injury, or in certain medical situations this can be a very easy way to do yoga, allowing the student to be more active than they would otherwise be.  In this class, the teacher examines each student’s limitations and provides a chair for sitting or holding chair for support, as well as other tools to enhance strength and flexibility so they can do their yoga practice. Each person's yoga practice is very unique and individual based on their needs.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu utilizes a variety of techniques to improve the Vital Energy (き or Ki in Japanese) flow. These may include gentle holding, pressing with palms, thumbs, fingers, elbows, knees and feet on the meridians and, when appropriate, more dynamic rotations and stretches.

Mariko will consider your state of health, the symptoms you are experiencing and, depending on your constitution and general energy levels, determine how to proceed. For many different reasons, Ki can stop flowing freely, and this produces a symptom. As the quality of Ki changes, the symptoms associated with a lack of flow will gradually improve. Shiatsu is a therapy that works on the individual as a complete being - not just the physical body, but also on the emotional and mental levels.

Mind/Body Wisdom

Learning the wisdom inherent in Yoga, Tai-chi, Qi-gong and Pilates can be a potent source of healing, which is why these forms are often referred to as Mind-Body medicine.   The latest scientific research shows the benefits of the holistic approach incorporating the ancient Eastern practices of Yoga, Tai-chi, Qi-gong and Reiki.

Reiki

Reiki is one of the more widely known forms of energy healing. Energy healing involves direct application of Chi (氣 Vital Energy), for the purpose of balancing the client's energy system. A Reiki healing is very simply performed. With the intent for healing to occur, the practitioner places his or her hands upon the person to be healed, and the energy begins to flow.

European/Swedish Massage

Manipulation of soft tissue of the body designed to relax muscles by a combination of various movements such as kneading and friction. The long stroke of massage releases toxins in the muscle and soft tissue.

Deep Tissue Massage

Therapy for specific medical problems. The therapist focuses on affected areas, using many different techniques and modalities, all of which help release the chronic as well as acute areas of tension and pain.

Pregnancy Massage

Relaxing and soothing strokes are used to help alleviate the stress and strains of childbearing. Massage is excellent for backaches, edema, and helps to increase the flow of oxygen, blood and nutrients to both the mother and child.

Reflexology

A form of compression massage based on the idea that stimulation of specific pressure points on the feet and hands affects other areas and organs of the body.

A Note About Massage

Massage can be effectively used to promote, maintain and restore health, which aids in the prevention of disease. Massage reduces the heart rate and blood pressure, increases circulation, decreases muscle spasm, improves range of motion, helps relieve pain, strengthens the immune system, and can help relieve anxiety, stress, headaches and injuries.
